Mahanaim Thrash 1047 Uhuru FC by 8 Goals
Mahanaim FC overpowered 1047 Uhuru FC with a flattering 8-1 victory on Saturday evening, as striker Odenigbo Emmanuel bagged a stellar hat-trick in the emphatic win.
The much anticipated encounter started under sunny Abuja weather at the Mahanaim Arena in Wuse Zone 5, with both teams eager to entertain the fans.
Mahanaim FC started on the front foot by creating a big chance within the first five minutes of the game. Soon after, they opened what would become a floodgate of goals in the 8th minute when Cameroon-born Sigha Etongue Royce received a pass from Ilyasu Idris on the right wing, cut inside and beat two markers before curling the ball into the top left corner.
Striker Odenigbo Emmanuel punished the opponents in the 18th minute to score the second goal, reacting first to a rebound after a shot from winger Usama Shuaibu was blocked by Uhuru defenders. The Odenigbo and Usama connection clicked again in the 22nd minute as Mahanaim went 3-0 up — Odenigbo found himself unmarked at the far post to tap in a square play from Usama.
Odenigbo became a thorn in the flesh of the opponents once again when he pounced on a spilled ball by the goalkeeper off a Mubarak Dayebu free-kick. His reaction was the quickest as he completed a joyous hat-trick, celebrating with Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature “Sui” celebration.
The Hot Boys continued to unleash fury on their opponents with another goal in the 38th minute. Fode Camara won a free-kick about 25 yards from goal, and Ilyasu Idris proved his speciality by striking it home from distance for Mahanaim’s fifth goal of the day.
“Mr. Effective” Usama Shuaibu registered the sixth goal for Mahanaim after dancing through the opposition defence before slotting past the goalkeeper just before halftime.
After the restart, Mahanaim FC coaches decided to rest some players as substitutes were introduced. The opponents used the opportunity to gain momentum and won a penalty, which they converted for their only goal of the match in the 61st minute.
The new entrants for Mahanaim FC responded quickly with two more goals. Umar Adamu dazzled into the box but laid the ball to Yusuf Adigun, who calmly finished for Mahanaim’s seventh goal.
The biggest surprise of the night came when Mahanaim FC U15 star Abubakar Gica went on a solo run, dribbling past two players before beating the goalkeeper at the near post to the admiration of the fans.
Following the impressive form of Mahanaim FC this year, several professional teams are showing interest in playing against the Hot Boys.
