Mahanaim FC exerted dominance over visiting Rose FA on Saturday at the Mahanaim Arena with a comfortable 4-1 victory.
Striker Mamoudou Batchily and midfielder Idris Ilyasu were in imperious form as both players had near-perfect performances and produced decisive moments throughout the game.
After early exchanges which produced a few half chances for both teams, Mamoudou Batchily took advantage of a loose ball in the 14th minute, pouncing on a poorly hit pass from a Rose FA center-back.
The striker beat his marker before unleashing a powerful strike from outside the box which beat the goalkeeper to put Mahanaim one goal ahead.
Rose FA tried to recover from the early setback, but they soon found themselves two goals down.
Fode Aly Camara played a quick pass to Batchily on the right wing, and the striker cut inside to beat the defenders before firing a shot that was parried by the goalkeeper. Fortunately for him, the rebound fell kindly back to his feet, allowing him to finish calmly and complete his brace.
Five minutes after the second goal, midfielder Idris Ilyasu delivered a square pass into the path of Emmanuel Odenigbo, and the striker made no mistake from close range to score Mahanaim’s third goal.
Once again, Idris Ilyasu was involved in the build-up as he released winger Abdullahi Dahiru on the left flank with a line-breaking pass.
Dahiru cut inside onto his stronger right foot before curling a brilliant effort into the near post, beating the goalkeeper and extending Mahanaim’s lead.
Mahanaim FC was 4-0 up after just 38 minutes, while Rose FA managed to prevent further damage before halftime.
The rhythm of the game changed in the second half as Mahanaim players missed several chances that could have widened the scoreline even further.
However, the visitors were handed an opportunity after Abubakar Kellou was adjudged to have committed a foul inside the penalty box. Rose FA won a penalty, although the resulting kick was missed.
Rose FA eventually pulled a goal back midway through the second half through a free-kick. Michael’s strike proved too powerful for Yau Murtala, giving the visitors their only goal of the match.
Mahanaim controlled the tempo from that point until the final whistle to secure an emphatic victory.
